Don Quixote–The Crazy Crusader

Don Quixote de la Mancha, the amusing, crazily crusading hero and title character of Miguel de Cervantes’ early 17th century literary classic, was a caricatured figure of mingled fun and pathos. This gallivanting knight out of time with his generation was so demented he thought he was still living in the days of ancient chivalry. He rode around gallantly on his old nag, in a patchwork suit of armor, with a pot for a helmet, followed by his fat and fuming faithful “squire,”[...] read more

Go Slow–You’ll Get There Quicker

“In quietness and confidence shall be your strength” (Isaiah 30:15). The Bible doesn’t promote hurry. The only verse I can remember any preachers or anybody else using to try to make us rush was, “The king’s business required haste” (1 Samuel 21:8). But for that one Scripture, I think there must be a hundred that tell us to go slow, or words to that effect—even to take it easy.

Do you know how powerful your prayers are? Prayers are powered by the Spirit of God, and nothing can limit the power of the Spirit of God. It doesn’t matter if you’re praying for something big or small, or who you’re praying for or where they are. Your prayers find whomever you pray for, wherever they are. God doesn’t even have to have the address; He already knows it.

We really should pray more for others, because there are so many people we could help through our[...] read more

(Written to a couple whose baby was born with deformed feet.)

My dear loved ones,

Our prayers are with you for your baby’s feet. The Lord has a promise for feet: “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who proclaims peace, who brings glad tidings of good things, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’” (Isaiah 52:7).

Remember that nothing happens by accident! God has a purpose in everything, even if it is[...] read more

Did God make a mistake by putting Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, where they wound up making their own choices—the wrong ones? (Genesis 3:6).

Did God have to confess failure by the Flood, in that He had to wipe out all mankind for its wickedness? (Genesis 6:5-7).

Was the Tower of Babel a total disaster, and was the confusion of tongues a catastrophe? Or was it necessary to accomplish God’s purpose to humble and scatter man over the face of the earth? (Genesis 11:1-9).

Lovelight

Life on Earth wouldn’t be possible without the Sun, because all life depends on photosynthesis—the process in green plants and certain other organisms by which food and cells needed for growth are synthesized, using light as an energy source. In turn, those plants and other organisms provide nourishment for animal life. Without the Sun, there wouldn’t be anything to eat and all life would cease to exist. So in a sense, every living thing eats sunshine. No wonder the[...] read more

Prayer Power

David Brandt Berg

The Lord leaves a lot up to us and our concern and prayer. If we only pray halfheartedly, we only get half an answer. But if we pray with our whole heart, we get a wholehearted, strong answer. If we turn it on real strong, then it reflects strong. Like a beam of light focused on a mirror, prayer will reflect or be answered with the same intensity that it originates with. It will bounce back with as much power as it began with.

The Lord leaves a lot up to us—our [...] read more
