What are the source of the materials used?

The concepts in the 12 Foundation Stones Bible Studies are based on the Bible and on contemporary Christian writings, in particular those of David Brandt Berg, founder of our movement The Family International. The Supplementary Reading are from the “Get Activated!” series of books by Aurora Production. Anecdotes and reference material came from a variety of sources. Many of the true-life accounts come from the experiences of those working with The Family International.

The Activated Basic course are the introductory issues of Activated magazines that touch on basic principles and cornerstones of the Christian life. It is all about connecting with God and experiencing what He has to offer. Whether you’re just beginning a journey of faith, are still deciding whether to do so, or you’re already walking a path of getting to know God better, Activated offers you a wealth of interesting reading, food for thought, and spiritual insight.

David Berg’s primary goal in writing was to ground the membership in the fundamental teachings of the Bible and the mission of the movement, as well as to propose novel doctrinal interpretations, and teachings on biblical prophecy related to Jesus’ Second Coming and the Endtime. At the heart of his teachings was the unshakable conviction that the love of God, as manifested in the Bible and the person of Jesus, was the solution to every human need.

He said, “It’s important that you know your Bible to use it as a tool, first of all for your own benefit!–So you know where to find what you’re looking for & what you want to study & what you want to read. Psalms & Proverbs are beautiful, devotional, poetic books, they’re beautiful to read at your devotional times”.

The Family International’s founder and current leadership

In 1968, David Brandt Berg, a former pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, began a Christian outreach ministry to the counterculture youth in Huntington Beach, California, USA. From these humble beginnings, what started primarily as a youth group grew to become an international Christian movement, whose members today live and work in over 100 countries worldwide. The movement became known as “The Family International” in the early 2000s.

David Berg was the founder and pastor of The Family International, and many of our publications are based upon his writings, as well as of course on the Bible, which he taught was God’s standard, the yardstick of measurement by which all truth and all error could be measured. Along with the classes in this Bible studies, you will be introduced to some of David Berg’s writings.

After leading The Family for 25 years, David Berg passed away in late 1994. His wife of 25 years, Karen Zerby, now leads The Family International together with her second husband, Peter. Like David, Karen continues to publish many writings to The Family International on a variety of spiritual and practical topics.
